Abstract

Purpose: This study provides the current state of research on resource diagnostic instruments in the digital work context for human resource management.

Study design/methodology/approach: The study examines resource diagnostics from different research traditions and tests their applications in the digital work context using a multilevel research design according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses.

Findings: The study shows a wide range of resource diagnostic instruments and argues for more consensus on resource constructs. It also reveals a research gap in the digital work context.

Originality/value: The study illustrates the complexity of resource diagnosis research and proposes defragmentation through consolidation.
